If I had to choose one word to describe Tom Ford’s spring 2018 collection, it would be SEXY. The Texas born designer (born in Austin, TX: https://www.famousbirthdays.com/people/tom-ford.html) showcased tailored silhouettes for the new season. Ford's signature appeal (sexy, shiny, bold, and expensive) illuminated the runway with ensembles for both day and night; chic looks from oversized menswear inspired jackets with strong shoulders to form-fitting cocktail dresses.
With the growing number of famous designers pulling out of NYFW to stage their own exclusive shows and the industry buzz about how “fashion week is dead,” Ford’s fancy unofficial kickoff for NYFW at the Park Avenue Armory Wednesday evening was just the antidote to raise morale. Not only did Ford’s show attract celebrities (such as: Liberty Ross, Ciara, Kim Kardashian West, Julianne Moore, Cindy Crawford, Doutzen Kroes, and Chaka Khan to name a few), Ford made sure to epitomize ethnic diversity on the fashion runway as well as including a few high-profile models like: Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Joan Smalls.
The Tom Ford woman walks into spring with full brazen confidence wearing 90’s silhouettes of retro wide shouldered jackets of leather, dark denim, orange, and intensely bold pink. The styling was edgy with bralettes and neck plunging bodysuits (showing hips in low trousers). This collection had something for the party girl as well as red carpet divas from sparkly mini-dresses to metal sleeves with a body-con fit. Ford’s show was a definite message that he doesn’t shy away from sex appeal and he is a luxury contender here to stay.
