[New York, NY: Doubles Club at the Sherry Netherland Hotel] For proud Texan designer Brandon Maxwell, his brand aspires to make women feel beautiful, sophisticated, and powerful. Maxwell's stunning Spring/Summer 2018 collection for New York Fashion Week stayed true to his luxury brand with an elegant and unexpected twist. For the first time, Maxwell showcased denim...nostalgic from his childhood in Texas. Maxwell dedicated the ss18 show to his "Nanu", his grandmother who recently passed away. From a young age, he was influenced by the impeccably dressed women and beautiful fashion in the boutique where his grandmother worked, this soon influenced his future as a designer.
With a goal to create classic American luxury style, Maxwell used a vibrant color palette of red, fuchsia, pale pink, yellow, blue, and emerald green in addition to classic black and white. Various silhouettes cascaded down the runway adding drama to each ensemble such as: plunging v-necks, trumpet sleeves, coats, floating trains, body-con dresses, and glamorous full-bodied flowing skirts. Staying true to his Texas roots, Maxwell featured a grand embroidered horse by his friend (and fellow Texan) Jules Buck Jones on the final runway look.
The model cast was not without star power as famous models filled the runway including: Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Taylor Hill, Gigi Hadid, and Bella Hadid.
Maxwell's heart is not far from the relief efforts to aid fellow Texans in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey as he auctioned off tickets to his show to help benefit the victims of the powerful storm.
