If Brandon Maxwell wrote a poem to Texas, it would possibly resemble: Roses are red, violets are blue, I design in New York, but I still love you!
Brandon Maxwell has always celebrated his roots as a Texan. Maxwell’s love for his home state was apparent in his elegant Texas tailgate themed runway show for his SS19 collection at the Classic Car Club of Manhattan. Maxwell built anticipation for his Lone Star love affair fashion show from beginning to end. The devil was in the details as Brandon Maxwell brought Texas to New York Fashion Week:
*Invitations were sent in the form of a pair of Lucchese cowboy boots. The leather soles embossed with a lizard graphic (by Jules Buck Jones)
*Shake Shack burgers and cocktails upon arrival
* Texas tea cocktails * Pink Yeti cooler stocked with cans of Shiner Bock beer
* Beautiful flowers piled up inside and at the back of pickup trucks
* Guests seated in folding lawn chairs * A sunset backdrop with a giant Lone Star flag against the back wall at the end of the runway (a big pink “B” in the center of the star for Brandon)
*At each seat, a special note from Brandon: “This collection is dedicated to Texas and my family for making me who I am” *A soundtrack of country greats such as: Bonnie Raitt, Taylor Swift, and Reba McEntire
Now that you know how the Texas in NYC stage and atmosphere were set, let’s talk FASHION! Brandon has done it again with a sophisticated collection that is fierce and feminine; an array of red, hot pink, golden yellow, foam green, black, dusty rose, taupe, and white. The pink carpeted runway was lined up with silhouettes of bold dresses, tailored suits, voluptuous skirts, wide leg trousers, shift dresses, and floor-length dresses with a few sprinkles of white t-shirts and denim. To keep the collection with the signature of the southwest, models carried clear hat boxes with Gigi Burris Millinery cowboy hats. A few models carried clear boxes with rosé champagne, and “B” graphic silk scarves knotted at the neck like bandannas.
Brandon Maxwell did not disappoint with an iconic show proving that everything is bigger and better in Texas. Thank you Brandon for your continued Texas pride and a glamorous tailgate themed homecoming! This was definitely a love letter: Dear Texas, from Brandon with love…XOXO!
